DOOM: Enjay Doom (UV Playthrough) [PC] - E1M1: Ruins
"What the hell is this shit?!"
First, it's not 'shit'. Second, this is an unsung classic of sorts that unfortunately has been buried under three things:
1) Time
2) Crap WADs (and oh Christ am I familiar with these)
3) Doom II and custom Doom II content
As the first full MegaWAD, and a rather competently-designed one at that (new titlepics and mapnames via the WILV** lumps too, fucking hell!) Enjay Doom/NJDOOM deserves a decent showcase, so that hopefully others will get a chance -- and perhaps an urge -- to experience it for themselves too. Unfortunately, I'm the one playing it, so it's only going to be some sort of casual, "look at me run into walls and shoot things" showcase instead. Which will most likely make everyone say "blah" and go back to some "HOLD DOWN FIRE AND WIN" bullshit instead.
Sorry.
Right, so there were some absolutely HORRIBLE bugs in the WAD when I first went through it to check if it was worth recording... And I mean really horrible stuff, shit like invisible walls, magical rendering glitches, inexplicable floating non-floors/chunks of solid nothing, and other archaic nonsense caused by archaic and primitive node-builders, editors and other such stuff from "Ye Olde WAD-Makeing Dayes". These were all fixed up though for the sake of this playthrough; weird stuff's usually entertaining, but I've seen so much of it now that the novelty of 1994-glitches has worn off, and it can be incredibly distracting and/or create sudden problems.
Anyway, that's enough pointless chit-chat. The first location for this first episode is a good old starbase in the middle of some ruins. Or maybe the base IS what the title 'Ruins' refers too..? Who knows? Who the hell even cares? I've got stuff to kill.
Easy stuff at that. The secrets, however... well they're not so easy to locate without some form of 'assistance', be it IDBEHOLDA/IDDT or using a map editor to view what's going on. I like hiding secret areas too, but when there's little or no way of noticing them, there's probably something wrong with your design style. Saying that, one or two of them can be found quite easily, and none of them are as bad as some of the shit I've put up with over the years.
But that's not important right now.
Oh, and the soundtrack isn't part of the WAD, oh no. It's just some stuff I threw together for the sake of it, because it was a slow day at the office. The office being the back room in my house. It's not really an office, it's more of a dining room really. Not that you needed to know this, but there you go anyway. You can impress other people with that useless knowledge!
Yes, other people!
Remember them?
They look like you!
...almost.
