Doom - FINAL: Rabbit Vengeance
It occurred to me immediately after pressing "stop recording" that I forgot to review the game. Overall I thought it was fun. Since the Chaingun exists, they keep all ammo types relevant, and balancing your usage of weapons is a little interesting, although it seems like there's usually too little ammo early in an episode and too much later on. Finding secrets would help, of course.
Managing health was interesting, since much more than many other FPS games, Doom lets you avoid taking damage. They still keep a reasonably supply of stuff, though, and backtracking helps a lot. I enjoy this over, say, Half Life 2 where undodgeable bullets and one way paths mean you often feel reliant on the game deciding to give you more health in the future. I felt pretty in control of my success throughout the game.
So yeah, good game. Interesting to see how well it holds up. I guess you don't usually start genres with bad games. I definitely remember other games being referred to as "Doom Clones" before the term "FPS" was coined, a pattern that has repeated with other genres like the MOBA genre.
