This was the last hole of UV-Max D2ALL in wads selected for Compet-N, I'm no longer a Compet-N player though. After finishing MM2 D2ALL, I immediately started to practice Requiem D2ALL. Requiem was released in 1997, but I have played it the first time in early 2000s and this was the first megawad which I touched, so I have a deep attachment to it. I didn't expect at that time that I am the first person to achieve UV-Max D2ALL.
The map design of Requiem has evolved since MM2. There are more complex structures and elaborate gimmicky maps, like map 13 and 23, but they also create a lot of bugs. The reason for this is the inconvenient mapping environment for no highly functional editor. Those bugs were sometimes fatal to UV-Max speedrun. The game style is to deal with tough enemies mainly with the super shotgun (SSG) until the middle episode. Cells and rockets are so limited and getting BFG is very far with map 18. This gameplay is pretty close to MM2.
This is about this speed run. Many demos have been archived for the old and famous megawad, but I improved UV-Max records of about half of all maps in Requiem over the course of a month and a half. There is still room for improvement in classic megawad's records. Before trying a movie run, I had guessed that my goal was less than 3 hours. This was more certain for getting less than an hour for all the records in episodes 1-3 movies.
I'm very annoyed at many factors which ruin a max run. One or two imps do not teleport easily in map 3, then I waste dozens of seconds. It is a problem that can be solved with time, but I should not do it with map 3 and had to start over from map 1 right away. My runs are frequently ruined by enemies whcih fail to W1 teleport. The specific maps are map 7, map 9, and map 31. These situations are basically avoidable for slow and safe runs but they are not all, like map 9. The area before the teleportation is inaccessible, so it is a complete dead end. Map 21 also has a fatal defect. Some enemies do not teleport easily and there is trapped area when you return, but those enemies likely teleport to the trapped area when you go ahead. I didn't want to waste about two hours I had spent for the run, so I made time to wait for the enemy here. Map 23 has SS ghosts that will never come back once they get out the map and it is another factor that ruins UV-Max. I also met the all ghost bug on map 6. It is not an unique bug on Requiem maps, but it is over when it happens.I was killed by the mastermind in final area of map 29. I was confident of the success run because of no difficulties left, so it is quite frustrating.
Map 23's tactic was changed from an individual run of UV-Max. A jump to the blue key was very risky because you will often be blocked by many enemies below which teleport after the red key room. I want to avoid the situation but the cyberdemon to fight against many enemies. Enemies after getting the red key room are not activated as long as you do not fire there. I made them activatedafter getting the blue key, then The cyberdemon fought against all enemies which teleport after the red key and blue key rooms.
Finally, I managed to get not only below 3 hours but also 2 hours and 50 minutes. The sum of the individual UV-Max records for all maps of requiem is around 2 hours and 30 minutes. This is relatively smooth.
