[DPCC 2024] (didn't-make-it entry) Remember Me 6BSC - Falk
Alright! time to talk about the submissions.
In the past two years, I abstained from DPCC for personal reasons, largely because some time ago I swore I was done with rhythm game work on an official basis. However, both some significant changes in my personal life as well as realizing that was just a bollocks reason for dodging what's a fun event (I mean, if contacted for official work I can still decline, and that's assuming contact occurs anyway, which totally isn't self-indulgent lmao) compelled me to enter this time around.
Due to my history on the back-end of rhythm games, I think one of my big requirements for making stuff is being able to test it out. I'm a firm believer that you have to find your own stuff fun if other people are to find it fun. To add on to that, I think it's also possible to chart beyond your own personal capability with this One Weird Trick(tm) we used back in the heyday of O2Jam - testing the chart at 75% or 80% speed, with the idea that if you can do it slower, better players can do it faster, especially technical things like double rolls or jacks, etc.
Anyway, osu!mania (lol) makes for a decent-enough stand-in for testing, even though the side notes have to pretty much still rely on guesswork. I think playing it in DJMAX proper, my own self-assessment would be a 4* at best for this, as there are some parts that are still unintentionally awkward.
Still, it's incredibly zany to see this stuff actually playable in-game, and props to Rocky/Neowiz for doing this surprise DPCC additional activity. I've been having a ton of fun playing many of the other "failed" charts, and the bar is extremely high.
Unfortunately I got stuck with work through like 80% of the DPCC entry duration and put about 90% of my available time into this chart, leaving the other two somewhat underbaked. Not that I'd have won anything otherwise, mind you, but I think on a personal level I'd have been more satisfied myself with the final playable result, finalist or not, if I'd been able to dedicate more time to this. Lisrim especially - that's one of my favorite DJMAX tracks ever (and not solely because both onoken and myself have contributed to Kingdom Hearts, among other things lol) and I definitely feel a bit of regret not being able to give that track the attention it deserved in context of this event.
Anyway this is entry #704 in the DPCC extended event.
