Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi - COM VS COM - Namek/Ginyu Saga (PS3)
Com VS Com Battles chronicling the Namek/Ginyu Saga of Dragon Ball Z, in the 2011 PlayStation 3 title Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi. The game is better looking than the older games, and is probably one of the better looking on the PS3. The Com VS Com battles are epic and satisfying to watch, but when you take a closer look at the game you can see that it doesn't have all the details and features of DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the PS2.
There are fewer characters available, you can't prevent characters from transforming or in other words turn transformations off, unless it's a character without transformations, the characters can't counter a beam-attack with their own, they can't evade attacks in the same way etc. But they have very cinematic moves that are entertaining to watch, but they might get repetitive fast.
The game also has a Create a Hero mode, but sadly you can only create male characters and only Saiyans, no humans, aliens, androids or Majins. This is the first title to have a "create a character" role-playing-feature in DBZ.
The next title Dragon Ball: Xenoverse that was released on both the PS3 and the PS4 did have more races and both genders available to chose from, and was more of an RPG/fighting-game mix.
Ultimate Tenkaichi is a fighting game in the same style as the PS2 titles but with better controls than the Raging Blast games for the PS3, developed by the same developers as the PS2 games. Unfortunately it has quick-events during battles where the player will need to press a button fast, or multiple times during a battle. This made the battles more repetitive and less fun. It was a big mistake not to simply use the Tekaichi 3 controls.
It has a nice COM VS COM mode though, hopefully the new one for the PS5 won't lack the COM VS COM that I always used in every DBZ game that had it from 2002 and until 2011 with this game. Xenoverse and later games didn't have it.
