Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Playthrough | Part 6: Help Forge Bonds Between Lands
With the town of Isis behind us, time to press on. There's a lot that goes down.
First off we head West to the town of Portoga (Portugal). It's king wants black pepper and is willing to give us a ship to do it. He gives us a letter that we have to deliver to someone. Using that letter, we can head east to the town of Baharata (basically India). Turns out a couple has been captured by a band of thieves. So we head for a dungeon and deal with... Robbin 'Ood. Seriously.
Thankfully we let him go and he lets the couple go. Thanks to this, we can be able to get Black Pepper. We head back to Portoga and deliver the pepper. This gives us a ship and we can now use it to explore. One such place is Alltrades Abbey.
Alltrades Abbey (or Dharma Temple) is a staple in several Dragon Quest games such as III, VI, VII and IX. It's here where you can reclass your characters. The only requirement is that the class your party members are in is at Level 20 or higher. When you do change classes, you start at Level 1 but you keep half your stats and everything you've learned. This has some benefits but also detriments.
For starters, if you plan to change a magic user into a physical class where the wisdom isn't good, the MP you bring is what you get. The same can be said for the alternative. But some class changes do provide benefits like a Martial Artist becoming a Warrior and vice versa. Reclassing a Priest or Mage into a Sage can greatly benefit. It's also where your Gadabouts can become Sages. For any other class, you need the Words of Wisdom (Book of Satori). The original NES version lets you get one whereas later revisions can give you two. Keep this in mind.
As far as my party is concerned, Shelby the Gadabout becomes a Sage due to having reached Level 20. She'll remain as a Sage for the rest of this playthrough.
Part 7 continues the trek. Oh and Alltrades Abbey doubles as a place to save and rest. Take full advantage when possible.
