Dragon Quest IX Commentary #118, Gittingham Palace (1/3): Boss: Hootingham-Gore
This is video #118 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/etT-Glgsu3g
The party has completed a couple of weapon skill quests. Two quests are currently underway: Quest 080: 'Atchet Job and Quest 084: Beauty and Beyond.
Now, the time has come to storm Gittingham Palace and put an end to the Gittish Empire. One way to get there is simply to Zoom to the Gortress and walk east to the palace. The other is to board the Starflight Express (time 1:30) and choose to get off at Gittingham Palace.
Either way, in the middle of the Gittish Empire region, the party finds Gittingham Palace (time 3:01). They must approach it from the south. They find it surrounded by a force field, but Celestria opens a hole so that they can cross the bridge.
With the hole in the force field, the party heads onto the bridge (time 3:44). No sooner do they arrive than Lieutenant Hootingham-Gore confronts them. The big bird-brain decides to take his aggressions out on them.
Thus, the dungeon starts right off with a boss fight against Hootingham-Gore and two Bad Karmours. Hootingham-Gore uses magic attacks, such as Frizzle and Swoosh. He can use an Eerie Glow that reduces party members' resistance to magic attacks, and he can protect himself from magic attacks with Bounce. The Bad Karmours with him are his muscle. They can reduce an ally's defence with Helm Splitter, and they can protect Hootingham-Gore from attack.
Conventionally, the best tactic is to wipe out the Bad Karmours first, since they defend the hooter from physical attacks. However, I'm also interested in hacking down those Bad Karmours for Quest 080: 'Atchet Man. They seem a bit resistant to Hatchet Man.
At the end of the battle, Heorot reaches Paladin Level 37 (time 10:59). Hootingham-Gore drops Sage's Elixir.
At the end of the battle, another scene takes place (time 11:40). Before shuffling off his undead coil, Hootingham-Gore alludes to the last of the Triumgorate, Lieutenant Goresby-Purrvis.
Before heading inside, the party rests in Stornway. Then, they make their way into the palace (time 13:14). It certainly has that evil dungeon vibe. The party first heads northwest.
My party finds Mini Medal #040 in a pot in the western hall (time 14:35).
The door in the north of the west hall leads to the western part of the northern hall (time 16:46). From there, they can go upstairs to L2 and then exit to the ramparts (time 17:05).
Just above the palace entrance, there is a red chest containing Mini Medal #041 (time 18:47).
While on the ramparts, they encounter the first Boss Troll for Quest 084: Beauty and Beyond (time 19:12).
While they are on their way back to the northern chamber, Debora reaches Armamentalist Level 39, learns the Oomph spell, and acquires 6 skill points (time 23:43). Nice job, Debora!
Back in the northern chamber, they can get to the eastern part of the first floor by falling down the hole in the floor (time 25:08). Ah, it's a veritable treasure trove! Beware of Mimics, though. The red chests contain Mini Medal #042, a Celestial Spear, and 5,000 Gold.
Thanks for watching!
