This is video #107 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/1OGx9TjkYCc

Madason and his family have gotten through Mt Zugzwang for the most part and have raided it of its treasures. They signed out on level 3, section C of the dungeon, which is the last place where a quick save can be made. This is just south of the room with the floor platform puzzle.

So, the party heads back through the last few areas of the dungeon to the final area.

Along the way through the ravine, Sancho, the Servant, reaches Level 34 (time 2:44). Micheal the Healslime reaches Level 31.

Next, Curetis the Cureslime reaches Level 23 and learns Kazing (time 4:10). Yes yes yes! That could certainly prove useful. So could Omniheal, of course, but that comes at Level 30.

The door that was blown open in the north of the worship room leads to the dungeon's final area, the lair of darkness, where Grandmaster Nimzo can be found (time 6:33). Fortunately, the party can take all the time they need to prepare before approaching their adversary.

It is a good idea to ensure everyone has an Elfin Elixir or two and an Yggdrasil Leaf. That Yggdrasil Dew is also an excellent insurance policy, but I did not feel that my party needed it.

After preparing, the party heads north and boards the lift waiting for them (time 8:59). It takes them across the gap to Grandmaster Nimzo himself, whose speech is portrayed very strangely with poorly used Cyrillic characters.

After Nimzo has spouted off, it is time for round 1 against him (time 11:11). He is in his humanoid form. His c-c-cold breath is pretty nasty. His physical attack is fairly strong, but not too bad. Kafrizzle is powerful, but it only hits one character. He can only act once in a round.

This is not a hard bout. The son should start with Insulatle to protect the party against the breath attack. The daughter's Oomph spell will make this bout go more quickly. Giving her the Sage's Stone is also useful, as she can act fairly quickly. As for the protagonist, his function is mainly to attack.

After the first round is over, there will be another scene with Nimzo (time 13:52). After some more strangely-written speech, he will evolve into a big red beast with wings and a tail.

Then, it will be time for the second and final round against him (time 15:22). This is a bit more like it. Disruptive Wave is his most annoying ability. He can breathe c-c-cold breath, but also an even harsher blazing fire breath that can deal 120 or more damage. He is in love with the Kaboom spell, which does a ton of damage to the entire party. He lowers the party's defence with Kasap, which makes them more vulnerable to his powerful tail attack. However, the tail attack is very infrequent. When he slashes with his claws, he will deal a powerful critical blow to a party member. He starts the battle with the Bounce effect active, and he will restore it after it wears off. He can also meditate to restore some health. Worst of all, he can attack twice in a round.

Despite all this, Nimzo is not as bad as some other DQ bosses. In fact, Psaro the Manslayer from the previous game would probably rip him to pieces. Insulatle from the son is a must. If the son has the Meteorite Bracer, he will most likely get Insulatle up before Nimzo can wreck the party. Also, his Fullheal will be essential on anyone hit by a critical attack. If Nimzo uses a disruptive wave, the son should waste little time getting Insulatle back up unless a Fullheal is needed. The son's Multiheal is also essential in case the party takes a lot of damage in a round. Oomph will help the physical attackers bring Nimzo down to size quickly. The daughter is well used for spamming the Sage's Stone. Multiheal + Sage's Stone is a powerful combination if no one has Omniheal yet. The protagonist's Absorb Magic spell can be used on the son to help him absorb MP from Nimzo's magic attacks, keeping his MP up. The son can suck a lot of MP out of Kaboom, in particular. If you have a monster like the Golem that can use Muster Strength, it will boost its attack power, and it will not be dispelled by the disruptive wave. Also, the Golem's high health makes it an excellent choice.

A final scene with Nimzo will take place after the battle (time 27:04). After he goes to pieces, a teleportal will appear for the party. Where will this take them?

Thanks for watching!
