A playthrough of Enix's 1992 role-playing game for the NES, Dragon Warrior IV.

This is part two of a two-part playthrough, picking up in Chapter 5 as the hero, Nara, Mara, and Hector reach the town of Konenber. You can find the first part at https://youtu.be/2HukXrlEwk8

The party is about to cross paths with Taloon at the lighthouse, and the rest of the party will come along soon after. Then they'll seek out the legendary Zenithian equipment, do a few good deeds, visit a castle in the sky (Japan loves its Ghibli!), and finally, they'll claw their way to the bowels of the earth to do battle with the villain.

What a ride! Chapter 5 is where the game hits its stride, and man, does it hit it. The story is good, there's a huge variety in the locations you visit, and out of nowhere, the graphics suddenly get way better. Some of the dungeons feature totally unique tilesets (like that slick water cave at 4:57:28!), and the enemies get a major boost in detail and color. And, if my memory serves me correctly, Necrosaro is the very first enemy in the series to have any battle scene animation.

If you'd like to catch a glimpse of the über rare King Metal Slime, jump to 9:13:25.

You can see the final battle at 10:14:52.

I do wish that we had gotten the original versions of the fifth and sixth games in English, though. After getting both Dragon Warrior III and IV in 1992, the US wouldn't see another game in the series until 2001 with the release of Dragon Warrior VII for the PlayStation (https://youtu.be/U2hzucDOUYM ).

With this video uploaded, I've now played through every NES Dragon Warrior game for the channel, and they're all 4K60 encodes. Four Chun Soft RPGs is a whole lot of NES gaming. About 71 hours worth, give or take, going by the video run-times! Whew!

Though I must admit, that's a spit on the bucket next to some of the later games in the series. Dragon Warrior VII (https://youtu.be/U2hzucDOUYM ) and Dragon Quest XI (https://youtu.be/CFZqdkyHSRM ) run close to 100 hours each.
