DragonBall Z Budokai 4 UPDATE: Version 0.4 - What's new in B4?
The project "Dragon Ball Z Budokai 4" stems from an original copy of Dragon Ball Z Infinite World for PS2, modded to allow new functions (like starting as an already fused character) and new gameplay features like Ki-Blasts Mid-Combo & Ground Bounces.
This project for now only runs on PCSX2 PlayStation2 emulator, but we don't rule out it might run on actual hardware in the future.
The .ISO we have chosen is a european copy of IW, for two reasons:
1) It already contains full support for 5 languages (English, Italian, French, Spanish and German), so players can choose their own native language.
2) It runs at 50fps, allowing for many things that 60fps copies can't do, while also having no actual noticeable effect on human players.
The goal of this project is to create a competitive PvP viable .ISO that embraces the best of every DBZ world, like Budokai 3, Shin Budokai 2, Infinite World, Burst Limit and even Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
In order to do so, we decided to modify every character, down to each single string and animation they have, to provide them with all the tools needed for actual PvP matches.
Slowly, we are revamping the entire cast, adding new moves, fixing bugs and even changing how the whole game's engine works. We have changed how the fatigue system works, removed "Aura Burning", gave characters the ability to gain Ki when hit and split their transformations in separate capsules.
We aim for a balanced environment, where every player can use any and every character, while still being reasonably able to win no matter the match-up.
Freedom of movement, moves choice and players artistic expressions are all our main concerns, in order to let anyone play with their own favourite characters at their best.
Since this is a PvP focused mod, we do not plan or don't care about adding simple cosmetics such as new costumes, stages, transformations, OSTs and whatnot.
For the same reasons, we do NOT plan ever to re-introduce armor clashes, beam struggles, Hyper Mode and DragonRush. They're TERRIBLE features, absolutely not adapt to an adult competitive environment.
I could've never done this without NIM's help, he's the only modder capable of achieving such feats and the only I'm currently working with. While I perform simple playtesting before and after each modification, all the heavy lifting is left to him and, so far, he has done an OUTSTANDING work. I cannot thank him enough for all the effort, care and love he poured into this project since we started it, almost a year ago.
