Dream Theater - The Dance of Eternity (Drum Cover by JD)
Artist: Dream Theater
Song: The Dance of Eternity
Drums by: JD (originally Mike Portnoy)
I like a challenge, so I figured I'd have some fun with this one. It seems like everyone likes to talk about how incredibly hard this song is to play, and although it IS the hardest one I've attempted so far, I don't quite think it's as difficult as it's made out to be. Maybe simply because it's more like an intense, 6-minute-long game of Memory - rather than being physically difficult or demanding to play. Regardless, it was a blast, and I'm very happy with how this cover turned out...I think it has now become one of my favorites!
It's also worth noting that, while I usually prefer the camera angles to fade into each other, I chose to switch them instantly here most of the time because the song is so busy and keeps up for the entire time, and by slowly fading the angles I felt like I was missing some things.
*I've gotten a few comments on my videos about how they're not really COVERS, per se, and that's entirely true - I don't set out to copy exactly what the original drummer played; that would be boring! Instead, I just adhere to the basic framework of the song, usually staying pretty true to the original drum part but adding my own flavor here and there, although there's not too much room for that in a song like this. Also, feel free to comment and say whatever you like (even if it's critical), but please try to keep the comments family-friendly!
Hope you enjoy!
