This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the various consoles I own.

Draconus is an often overlooked action adventure game for the Dreamcast that allows you to choose between two characters to play as. You get the choice between the male character, Cynric, who's strength is in hand to hand combat, or the female character, Aeowyn, who's faster, and has a strength in magic. You can't switch between them at will though. You have to pick either Cynric or Aeowyn to play through the entire game with. This does however give players another reason to play through the game after they've completed it with one character.

The game has some obvious frame rate and control issues. The whole game feels a little floaty, and it's at times hard to hit the enemies. It's definitely something that you'll have to get used to.The direction your character swings in battle is dependent upon which direction you're pressing on the analog stick, and that may turn some people off to it.

The voice acting is also quite cheesy at times, while also quite good at other times. The monsters have annoying voices, but the announcer guy, and some of the characters have some good voice talent behind them.

The announcer is the late Tony Jay who's did quite a few video game and movie voice-overs (Most notably the Elder God in the Soul Reaver series).

Draconus Cult of the Wyrm is only available on the Sega Dreamcast.

An interesting observation I've had about this game, but I couldn't find any place to confirm or deny it. When looking through my old gaming magazines, I happened across a game called Die by the Sword for the PC, and it's screens reminded me quite a bit of Draconus. It turns out that both were developed by Treyarch.

Perhaps someone else can confirm their relation to each other. I'm not sure if Draconus is a sequel to Die by the Sword, or if they're just two similar games released by the same company, but they have a lot in common.

Try also looking up vids for Die by the Sword to see what I'm talking about. I unfortunately do not have that game to show you vids on it.
