PS1 Underrated Gem: Vanark
This is a series of gameplay vids I'm doing highlighting overlooked games for the various consoles I own. This is played on a PS2 with Texture smoothing on.
Vanark is, to put it best, an exact mix of Star Fox, and Panzer Dragoon with a little story elements thrown in there for good effect. You fly through various levels in a predetermined path (with a few branch-offs from that path available), and blast a plethora of baddies with the typical blasters, or homing missiles. You also unlock new weapons depending upon how you do.
It's not better than Star Fox or Panzer Dragoon, but it's still a fun little rail shooter that fans of the genre should look into.
The story elements in between the missions aren't the most inspiring, but they can, for the most part, be skipped. That way, if you're not a fan of those elements, you don't have to suffer through them long. However, some people may dig those elements, and look at them as a plus, so it just depends on who you are.
Vanark is only available on the PS1.
