And so we've come at last to the end of Velo's time trials. If you managed to make it this far, you'll have your hands on Velo's Decal before long. While Drive-Thru Danger, the final bonus track released as part of the Grand Prix, seems daunting at first, it has a satisfying flow to it that will reveal itself to you over time. Once you memorize the best racing line to take, and your knowledge of the track grows, you'll be tearing through these corners like a pro. In this clip, I more or less mirror the route from Oxide's playlist, with minor modifications I'll note further below.
Before we dive in, you'll obviously need to be very comfortable with air braking if you hope to best Velo here. As this technique is better illustrated than described, see the link below for how to do it. He has the controller inputs embedded in the video that light up in timing with his movements on screen, so it's super easy to see what's going on. The video shows a PS4 controller but I'm on Xbox One and can confirm it works with either the joystick or the D-pad. I personally prefer the joystick due to the Xbox One controller's layout, but use whichever feels more natural to you.

At the start, you can pick up Sacred Fire (SF) from a boost pad just beyond the green force field. Do your best to keep it as you air brake around the corner leading to the USF pad. Hug this corner as tightly as you can without falling off the track. Once you drop down, I do something different here from my Oxide run: I cut two sections of track as opposed to one. You can skip the second section by jumping just to the left of the propeller blade, saving you a second or so each lap.
At the lava lamp-looking structure, I hug the inside of this turn better here compared to the Oxide run. And the final shortcut where you hop down to the lower section of track is much smoother here as well. You want to make sure you don't start cutting to the left too soon or you will clip the barrier here and extinguish your blue-fire.
Back at the starting line, it can be tricky to maintain USF around these first few corners. In the end, though, your strategy should be the same: use air brake to hug the bend leading to the USF pad. If done successfully, you'll still have USF as you head toward the pad, but you may need to chain one power slide before jumping off the pad.
Your competency with air brake will make or break your success in this trial, not to mention your enjoyment of it, as there are certain paths blue-fire opens up to you that are otherwise unavailable. That said, keeping USF for all three laps is far from necessary here, as Velo certainly doesn't (he actually falls off the map on lap 2). Optimizing my racing line while holding on to blue-fire for the duration of the race was enough to trim my Oxide time by nearly 10 seconds and allowed me to come in almost 19 seconds under Velo's par time.
Beating him once (and assuming you've done all 39 trials in order) will award Velo's Decal, a rare and much coveted item in this game so wear it with pride. You earned it!
