The object of this game is to have Scrooge McDuck collect all the treasures from Bermuda, Niagara Falls, Mu, Egypt, and Scotland. Scrooge starts off with a piece of a treasure map that leads to the Secret Treasure of McDuck and picks up 5 additional pieces of the map from each of these 5 locations. Once all the pieces of the treasure map are found, Scrooge will know the location of the Secret Treasure of McDuck & must enter it and try to collect all the treasures.
Other Notes:
1. The treasures in each level are in treasure chests or are hidden (invisible) in the background. Each level has X-Ray Glasses that reveal the hidden treasure items to Scrooge (they flicker once the X-Ray Glasses are obtained) as long as he finds them. In addition to these treasures, Scrooge will get a $1 million treasure after defeating each boss or clearing each level. Also, Mu & Egypt each have a Hidden Treasure, which is a special treasure in a treasure chest worth $1 million. Each level has a Special Treasure Chest that opens & tells Scrooge how many unopened treasure chests remain. The number of unopened treasure chests that remain include actual items in treasure chests as well as hidden treasure items revealed by the X-Ray Glasses.
2. New in Duck Tales 2 is the Item Shop that allows Scrooge to buy items useful to his quest, such as the Cake, the Safe, the Continue Globe, and the Good Mojo Doll. The Cake will restore all of Scrooge's HP. The Safe stores the monetary value of all the treasures he collected up until the moment he uses it. It's useful because in this game, when a life is lost, so is all the money collected in a stage up to that point. Therefore, it's best to use the Safe right before a difficult part of the game. The Continue Globe allows Scrooge to continue once all his lives are lost. The Good Mojo Doll gives Scrooge an extra life. Each level has at least 1 Good Mojo Doll already in it (some have 2). Other new items include the Scrooge Bomb, which wipes out all enemies on the screen, the Walkie Talkie, which allows Launchpad to contact Scrooge & ask him if he wants to return to Duckberg, and the X-Ray Glasses as noted above.
3. Also new to Duck Tales 2 are the three Cane Adapters that Scrooge needs along the way. The Hammer Adapter allows him to swing through blocks/bricks a normal golf swing can't break, the Iron Adapter allows him to break through blocks/bricks that a normal pogo jump won't break, and the Power Adapter allows him to pull blocks too heavy for a normal pull. These adapters are obtained from Gyro Gearloose in Bermuda, Niagara Falls, and Mu & are used automatically once acquired (you dont have to select or activate them).
4. There are also 2 Stars hidden in Egypt & Scotland that add 1 HP each to Scrooge's default 3 HP that he starts with.
5. Each level has many hidden areas, and some have riddles/puzzles that have to be solved to reveal treasures and secret areas. Levels can be completed as many times as desired. However, once all the pieces of the map are obtained, Scrooge will immediately leave the level he's currently on & will go to the Basement of the castle in Scotland. Once the Basement is completed, Scrooge will have the opportunity to return to the incomplete level so he can complete it & defeat the boss.
6. The game has 2 endings. If the bosses of all 5 levels (Bermuda, Niagara Falls, Mu, Egypt, and Scotland) are defeated without collecting all the maps, Scrooge will miss out on searching for the Secret Treasure of McDuck. He will immediately go to Glomgold's ship and face off with his D-1000. The game ending will not be the true ending if this happens. However, if Scrooge does collect all the map pieces, finds the Secret Treasure of McDuck, goes back to the level he was pulled away from (after finding the last piece of the Treasure Map) & defeats the boss, and then defeats Glomgold's D-1000, the true ending will be revealed.
7. Familiar characters from the cartoon include Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack, Gyro Gearloose, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby, Bubba, and Glomgold.
