DUNGEON CRAWL STONE SOUP in 2020 v25: Beginner Caster Guide Episode 18 [Ogre Venom Mage]
4Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is alive and well in 2020! In this DCSS Beginner's Guide to a Caster, I explain the strategies for getting a caster-type character off the ground. Casters play much differently than melee characters and require a bit of love early to get "over the hump" but once you get some good spells and some traction, you can become very powerful and versatile. Here we focus on one type of species/background combo for a caster, which is the Ogre Venom Mage. Ogres make nice casters in .25 because they have huge HP pools and aren't as squishy as other choices. The Venom starter spell kit is amazing and all of the spells are useful. This guide explains how and when to use the spells and will take you through the XP and skill steps early so you can get your caster a good foundation and feel confident in venturing out on your own in the mid-game, when you start choosing other spells to learn and go into different dungeon branches.
I hope you find this guide useful! It is not for complete newbies to the game (I have a separate DCSS Newbie Guide on the channel for that ;) ) but it is made with new caster players in mind.
