Dungeon Keeper is a Real Time Strategy game made by Bullfrog. It was published by EA and came out in 1997.

The interesting thing about Dungeon Keeper is that here you are switching sides. That means that you are not playing against the "Evil" forces but instead control them. You are the "Dark Lord" the Keeper. Your task is to conquer the lands which belong to the "good" people. But beware, not only Heroes want to stop you from doing that but there are also other keepers who want to conquer the lands themself.

DK does not play like your typical RTS game. You can not directly control your units or tell them where to go. You just "guide" them on what to do.

Your Imps are your loyal workers and they are there to keep your dungeon running. To make them work you have to click on the rockwalls to mark them so they know where to dig. Soon after that they will go there and dig out the rock and conquer the land for you. Alternatively you can pick them up with your
"Hand" and drop them near the area you want them to dig so they don't have to travel so far. Most of the things are done automatically by your Imps. They are going to fortify your dungeon walls so the enemy can't dig through them before they conquer the land next to it.and they will also carry any gold they may find to your treasury.

You can also give your Imps a slap with the hand. If you do that they are going to work a little faster for some time. Just dont slap them to death because that would not be very effective ;)

The other creatures are there to combat your enemies but some of them also have special interests.

For example the Sorcerors like books and magic so they are gonna hang out in your library most of the time to research new spells or rooms.

Trolls or Bile Demons are interested in your workshop if you have one so they're gonna manufacture doors or traps for you. These can be placed by you somewhere in your dungeon to protect it against intruders.

The most important thing to do is always to train your minions. Because at level 1 all of them are useless and weak but if they are trained and gain higher levels they are not only stronger but also get new spells or skills to use in combat.

In DK you have to not only build your dungeon but make sure that your creatures are satisfied. Spiders and Flies for example don't get along and even gonna kill each other so you have to either make different lairs for them so they don't see the other too often or you have to get rid of one of them by throwing them back into the portal they came out of.

As a keeper you can ofcourse use some mighty magic spells yourself (given that they have been researched in the library) You have healing spells, armor spells to decrease the damage that your minions take in combat, create imps, and also the most interesting spell in the game called "Symbiosis"

With Symbiosis you can take control of the creatures in your dungeon and move with them in a first person perspective through the corridors you created. You can also use it to fight or just look around. It is probably one of the most interesting features of this game.

All spells except Symbiosis cost gold so just use them if you have either unlimited gold reserves (from diamonds) or if it's really necessary. Healing for example can be very helpful.

And last but not least there is a creature named Horny or Horned Reaper. That guy is heavy, he is the most powerful creature you can get but not on the normal way. You have either find him or get him with a "temple recipe". But before you hire that guy you should be aware that he is also the hardest to control. That guy gets angry just because he is bored and he will kill
everyone and everything in his way so you better build him his own little dungeon and let him make some rounds in the temple. If you manage to get him satisfied and train him to level 10 then there is almost no way to stop him.He could wipe out an entire Hero group alone.
