This is a multiplayer campaign that can be played solo. It's like a remix of the main Kingdom of Ehb campaign, with similar locations and a similar structure. The game map is more open and interconnected than the Ehb campaign though, and feels a lot bigger.
I'll be playing through it solo and doing every journaled quest. I’m using a character imported from my original Dungeon Siege playthrough, who was just about the right level to play on the harder “veteran” setting.
This has a strange way of saving progress, you can save your quest progress, but when you resume a session after quitting, you can only start from one of the game’s eight towns, provided you are at the required level for that town, and all enemies and treasure will have re-spawned.
I found that early on, the experience and difficulty curve was well paced, with you gaining the required levels as you reach each subsequent town, but eventually it went off the scale, and I started falling behind the xp curve, even playing solo, and had to repeat long journeys as I didn’t have the right levels to spawn at the town I wanted to resume from. Also, the enemies got tougher than I could realistically deal with, the mobs dishing out more damage than the rate I could heal. Though upon death, you just re-spawn as a ghost and can carry on your merry way until you reach a resurrection point or a timer counts down.
This would have been better for solo play with a proper save system like the original campaign and a fairer, more balanced difficulty curve. I suspect they wanted you to grind out the levels you need, but it gets to the point where a single level increase can take about three hours of play. It's quicker to just bite the bullet and finish the campaign under-levelled, which is entirely possible and what I’ll be doing here.
It’s worth mentioning that there are also a few side areas in this huge map, that I don’t show in this playthrough, as they weren’t required for progress or journal quests and would have been too much for my character to handle.
Quests:
00:00:00 - Hovart's Folly
03:09:35 - The Diamond Runestone
03:30:40 - Elddim Townstone
04:27:19 - Travel to Crystwind
04:33:49 - Travel to Fallraen
07:48:20 - Fallraen Barracks
08:12:28 - Fallraen Townstone
I had to record in desktop mode for this to be in 1080p, because it switches to a lower resolution in the title screen menu. Due to this, the title screen and non-gameplay parts are stretched, but the actual gameplay isn't. Also, this results in a visible green dot in the lower right corner.
