Dwarf Fortress Tutorial/Review - World Setup & Intro - Episode 0 (Part 1/2)
Dwarf Fortress has launched it's commercial version (available from Steam), so here's my tutorial/overview review. It's noticeably different from the free build (which is still available, so you can try for yourself before handing over any money) so I'm learning along with you. I have years of experience playing the free version, so I'm hoping the skills are transferrable. But I can see that there is plenty of game-ending disasters to come.
But disaster is part of the Dwarf Fortress experience, it can be super-funny seeing everything catch fire (sometimes literally). Losing is fun! But this tut series will hopefully enable us all to avoid the major disasters. My aim of this series is to set up a functional Dwarven society in completion, and then spend our time exploring the underground world (that's where the scary creatures live).
In this zero episode, we'll go over a few basic concepts, take a look at setting up our world and dwarven party, and STRIKE THE EARTH. Join me again tomorrow for part two, where I'll show you two ways to make an entrance to your Fort, how to set up stockpiles, and the basics of control.
