Dynamite Headdy has a special appeal for me; as a theater nerd I love its references to painted backdrops (with tears no less), puppets, and stagecraft in general. The gameplay itself, which features your character utilizing various head-based attacks (you are able to swap out heads), is excellent. Developed by the legendary studio Treasure, it was guaranteed to push a few boundaries, not least in the area of graphics, which are pure eye candy. However, there is a downside to all this onscreen activity. Often there is so much going on (moving sprites, shifting backgrounds) that it's hard to see what objects are hitting your character. This is a minor nitpick in an otherwise great game. The music is also excellent. 8/10 stars
