Pang Tong's moveset is very awkward, with every move coming with big drawbacks. A lot of 1v1 moves, and a lot is considered airborne so he gets knocked over often.
The safest way to play is to repeat just the first normal attack as it has the best range, all the way until the musou gauge is recharged and then use that. Pang Tong's musou hits everything around him. At low health it's especially effective with the added fire element.
The main thing to watch out for with the True Musou is that the finisher has a weird quirk where the last hit of the attack is physical and not a shockwave. In other words, only Pang Tong's staff can hit enemies on that last hit - I feel it's a programming mistake because the regular musou attack ending doesn't have this and the last hit there is a regular shockwave just like the rest of the attack.
C6 is a 360-degree shockwave, just like the musou attack and you can use it to increase musou attack length by entering musou immediately after using it. But with how likely you are to get hit before you even get to C6, it's not the most reliable thing.

Thanks to auto lock-on being gone, I can play the game normally and use the other attacks as well, although it doesn't change the fact that first normal attack + Musou spam is the most effective way.
His unique weapon is made exactly for that purpose, its bonuses including Attack, Musou Charge, Attack Range, as well as Life and Bow Attack.
For that reason, the patch to disable the slowdown and camera turning during True Musou is activated here (after the first stage), as its gets annoying really quickly with how much the Musou attack is used here.

The start is very rough, I'd say rougher than Zhuge Liang's was, as Pang Tong starts at Hu Lao Gate, and he has the lowest starting attack in the game, dealing laughably little damage.
Zhuge Liang's first stage in comparison could be done easily in under ten minutes.

The unique weapon is at Cheng Du, with the requirement being to defeat Zhang Ren.
Pang Tong has a filler for his sixth stage, and then ends with the Nanman Campaign, so he gets to avoid Wu Zhang Plains altogether.
