Dynasty Warriors 8 (JPN) - Wen Yang Gameplay (Chaos Difficulty) [HD]
A rather hard to master weapon and moveset, but once so it becomes very rewarding to use. Sorry about the fade cut near the beginning; I had to leave for an hour and didn't want to restart the recording.
Moveset Breakdown:
C1 is perhaps his most useful attack; although linear as a ruler, it is very long distance and can be used to send enemies flying straight upwards to continue combos. It cannot be air recovered by officers. C1-Dash combo can make approaching very far distance enemies a breeze. It can even be used to flawlessly combo after a storm rush.
C2 is a launcher and EX triggers a slowdown on effected enemies for its brief duration. It is non-elemental, so even with Whirlwind element you'll have to break an officer's guard or execute it during a combo. It can be comboed with the following: C2-EX-Dash-C1(-Dash). Parenthesis marks optional/if necessary move.
C3 twirls the spear twice and then does a spear throw. The twirls are mostly worthless, as it completely misses more often that not, especially on airborne and if you have high Godspeed. See C4 for the actual spear throw, which is identical.
C4 is a spear throw only and can also be comboed with a dash and then a C1 after it. Sometimes if you execute the dash early, you won't have to do a C1.
C5 is a launcher that hits twice. The last hit is difficult to target and will miss targeted enemies if you rely solely on auto targeting (especially for airborne enemies), which is why it is pretty much mandatory to manual target it.
C6 is another launcher but this one sends him in the air in addition. Therefore, it's great to follow it up with his air musou. However, getting the hit at the right position to make the air musou not completely miss targeted enemies is difficult. Manual targeting should also be used if this is the case. You can also combo C6-Dash-C1(-Dash).
Switch attack is not very good, although it hits multiple times the damage is low. And like a lot of other weapons, it sends the enemies completely far away; a combo enthusiast's shattered dream. However, there is a special way to combo with the switch attack using Boomerang as your secondary weapon. To do so, you must execute C2-EX and then quickly switch (missed), then immediately switch again with the boomerang followed by jump cancel (C2-EX-Switch-Switch-JC). This works because of the slowdown, enemy being in the air, complete cancellation of the spear's switch attack, and boomerang's long distance switch attack that sends enemies spinning directly upwards. If you try to do this trick without executing C2-EX, more than likely the enemy(officer in this case) will have enough time to air recovery before getting hit by the boomerang's switch attack.
Musou 1 does two attacks and covers a lot of area. Decent.
Musou 2 is a grab musou and will only fully work on completely standing enemies. Unless you're not using this in a combo or ice configuration, I'd dismiss it.
Air musou sends enemies flying upwards towards you. Strangely, although the aesthetics indicate that it should cover an entire 360 area of hit, it can only hit enemies in front of you, a bit on the sides and not anywhere near the back at all. The area of hit is also not very significant, so if you intend on executing it after C6, you'll want to execute it as soon as possible following it; otherwise, C6 will send the enemies too far away and the musou will completely miss. The air musou normally cannot be comboed following it; however, you can do a timed attack (jump attack) followed by a C1 after the musou which will then allow you to combo with it.
