"Early Access" is meaningless marketing drivel, or, Early Access isn't a thing. [kic rants]

Here's the video in a nutshell: Early Access is little more than a label placed upon a game to make excuses for it being half-baked and potentially never finished. You, as the consumer, have to ignore this label and decide based upon the current version of the game whether it's worth your money.

Like what you see and think you'll get an appropriate amount of value? Then buy. Don't like what you see and think it's missing too much stuff? Well then, obviously, don't buy.

To look at Early Access games in any other way is to fool yourself and put yourself in the potential position of disappointment. We all know games go into early access never to be finished, but we also know some early access games do reach 1.0 and get released.

The problem is, we, as consumers, have no way of knowing which games will actually live up to their promise (of features--not of being good), and which will rot away into nothingness, taking the money of unsuspecting, gullible, or well-meaning consumers along the way.

This isn't to say don't buy anything labeled as early access, rather, this is to say that you have to ignore that useless label and decide on the game's current merits whether it's worth your money. If you do that, you'll be fine. You may still get a broken half-game, but as least you knew you were buying a broken half-game. Don't come crying to me about it.
