One thing to note is that after you entering the Phase Distorter is a point of no return. If you save anywhere in the Cave of the Past, you cannot go back to the other places anymore. If you want to do other things like find the remaining 1/128 items (except for the Gutsy Bat), do not save in the Cave of the Past.
Anyways, Bionic Krakens drop the Gutsy Bat, which doesn't give as much of a boost in Offense as the Legendary Bat, but gives Ness a gigantic boost to his Guts, pretty much guaranteeing that any physical attack by Ness will end up being a Smash hit. I don't try for it because I'm trying to conserve my HP and PP for Giygas and the fact that I don't really need the giant Guts boost the Gutsy Bat provides for Giygas anyway.
