The Android Earthquake Alert System by Google is a free service that utilizes smartphone sensors to detect earthquakes and communicate with nearby Android devices. Users can be notified by the system seconds before the shaking begins, enabling them to seek safety earlier. The world's largest mobile earthquake detection network is made up of Android devices that act as mini-seismometers.

▶️ To turn on earthquake alerts on an Android device:

1) Open Settings

2) Tap Safety & emergency

3) Tap Earthquake alerts

4) Turn Earthquake alerts on or off

If Safety & emergency isn't available, tap Location, then Advanced, then Earthquake alerts. To receive alerts, Wi-Fi or data must be turned on. After the shaking stops, users can tap for tips on what to do next.
