Elemental | Ember and Father Shot Progression #shots
100A few of the first shots I animated on Elemental- Ember had just been told she can take over the shop for the first time tomorrow. For the hug, after testing it out with a couple matches, I wanted to try and get a subtle merging/growing of their flames. You can notice it mostly on Bernie’s flames since they start much shorter than Ember’s. This shot actually started out a lot different where it was more of a quick hand hold, but that didn’t feel personal enough so our awesome drawover artist Kristophe Vergne suggested a hug which fit the moment better.
For the little happy dance I sketched a bunch from videos on YouTube of people celebrating, like after a job interview that went really well, or from videos of people finding out good news over the phone where they’re celebrating but still trying to be quiet (since Bernie’s probably still within earshot). It was tricky for me to get this shot feeling natural, and I ended up redoing it from the start 7 times before I got something I liked.
