A little Elite: Dangerous Horizons guide on how to locate Crashed Ships with Full System Scanner (FSS) and Detailed Surface Scanner (DSS).

UPDATE: APRIL 2023: The info in this video is still relevant, but also check out my other video for an Odyssey specific demonstration:
https://youtu.be/FJe-fXFqALo

Please note in Odyssey/Horizons 4.0, you will also locate "Crash Sites", there are not the same as "Crashed Ships" and are procedurally generated after mapping the planet.

Also of note, from ongoing testing in Odyssey (still needs checking with Horizons 4.0):
If planet is LANDABLE - CZ/Megaship/ Orbital Installations WILL show as Human Signals
If planet is NOT LANDABLE - CZ/Megaship/Installations WILL NOT show as Human Signals

Full list of signals:

Things that count as "Human" signals in FSS (Legacy/Horizons 4.0/Odyssey):

Conflict Zones
Fleet Carriers
Megaships
Capital Ships
Orbital Installations
Surface Installations
Crashed Ships (note "Crashed Ship" not "Crash Site")
Tourist beacons

Things that definitely DON'T count (Legacy/Horizons 4.0/Odyssey):

Orbital Stations (Orbis, Coriolis etc)
Resource Extraction Sites
Pirate Activity
Checkpoints
Listening Posts (appear as "Other" not "Human")

Additional Odyssey/Horizons 4.0 ONLY Signals that don't count - only appear after mapping planet:

Active Power Source
Artificial Structure
Crash Site (note "Crash Site" not "Crashed Ship")
Distress Beacon
Irregular Markers
Impact Site
Minor Wreckage
Nonhuman Signature
Surface Excavation
