Elite: Dangerous VR - Visiting the Thargoid Megastructures
VR gameplay from the new Thargoid bases in Elite: Dangerous. How to activate the Unknown Device and more.
Elite: Dangerous is a $29.99 space sim game that supports VR on the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. It also supports regular PC gameplay and PS4/Xbox One. In this video I visit the newly introduced Thargoid capital ships and investigate the Unknown Device.
Most of the information I referenced in this video was from this thread on Reddit:

Here's my quick guide to activating a megastructure:
-Equip 2 Corrosive Resistant Cargo Racks from Professor Palin
-Find and scoop an Unknown Probe by looping around an Ammonia world in hyperspace, stay within 25mm of the planet and look for a USS called "Degraded Emissions Detected (threat 2)". I used this system:
PLEIADES SECTOR KC-U B3-1 planet: 8
-Find and scoop an Unknown Artifact by traveling to MEL 22 SECTOR ZU-P C5-1 and fly away from the orbital plane until your nav indicates you are in "Deep Space" then cruise and look for a USS called "Anomaly Detected (threat 4)"
-(Optional) Go to an ancient ruin and pick up a Ancient Relic by shooting at the crystal spire that rises out of the ground until the Ancient Relic falls down. Do this if you want to piss off the Thargoids, and use it in place of the Unknown Link. I used this system:
SYNUEFE XR-H D11-102
-Go to a system with a Thargoid megastructure by using this list:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12Gp9F1m-ZI8cOnTZRPhdd-PQFLkHikTNX-KqyiQMj-0
or use the system where you got the UA:
MEL 22 Sector ZU-P C5-1 planet: 4A coords: -63.5, 8.02
-Land at the Thargoid base AND THEN QUIT THE GAME AND CHANGE INSTANCES (Solo to Private Group etc) This will make sure you don't encounter a bug that prevents the Unknown Links from spawning.
-Deploy your SRV and transfer the UA and UP to it. You need the UA to open the doors of the Thargoid structure, so don't lose track of it.
-Go into the central Thargoid structure and check the side room where Unknown Links spawn. Make sure they actually spawn before you start the ritual.
-Go into the central room and drive up to the green pad next to any of the holograms. It will display a hologram of the Unknown Artifact, Unknown Probe, or Unknown Link. Jettison the alien item that matches the hologram to add it to the machine. You can only carry 2 tons of cargo as a SRV so at some point you will have to run back and get the last piece. Make sure you bring along the UA so you don't get locked out.
-If you want to piss off the Thargoids, use the Ancient Relic at the hologram that calls for the Unknown Link
-Once all 3 pieces of alien tech are inserted into the Thargoid machine, scan the Unknown Device in the center to trigger a reaction.
