Emtec Gembox - Obscure Android Microconsole
16I have a quick look at the Emtec Gembox, one of the more obscure latecomers to the Android Micro-console rush. I'm covering it because of some disappointment surrounding my acquisition of a Madcatz M.O.J.O., and the only thing that cures disappointment, is an even bigger disappointment--like a Gembox.
This console came out in 2016, and was slightly lower spec'd than the similarly-priced Ouya, which arrived ~2-3 years earlier. Honestly it's not so bad--a little weak in the specs, and a lot late to the party, but otherwise serviceable.
Emtec partnered with gamefly for the thing, which surprised me for a few reasons (and yes they're still around in 2021!), it came with a few games and emulators pre-loaded, offered its own store (in addition to google play), and even had what appears to have been a streaming service.
