"New sensor contact, bearing 118.430!" the Aeolus's sensors officer called out.
"Show me!" Archus Curia demanded, shooting to her feet.
The bridge of the battleship fell silent as a graphical display of the Creshida system appeared. A red dot winked into existence beyond the system's furthest planet.
The crew stared at the display, and the Archus could feel the dread rolling off of her sailors. This could be it, the moment they'd trained so hard for…
A minute passed, and the signal disappeared from sight.
"Sensors, what happened?" Archus Curia barked.
"Unknown ma'am, we lost the contact. Could be the distance, or some kind of interference."
The Archus's XO walked up beside her. "Should we go to general quarters Tatiana?"
Archus Curia frowned at her subordinate. "No Paulus. Get a recon flight pointed at the last known position of that sensor reading and get me some more damn info on what we're dealing with. Until then, tell the rest of the fleet to close formation around the Aeolus."
