0This is a cool game, free to download. In Ubuntu linux it is in the repository, otherwise it is available from Steam.
You begin with having saved enough "credits" to be able to buy your own starship. The "Sparrow" is one of the 3 ships available to buy, and my favorite. It's small, and only has enough hyperspace fuel for 3 jumps, but a good starter. A pilot who is retiring catches up with you and offers to teach you a few tricks if you will fly him to his new retirement.
At this point, I have flown some missions and purchases 2 additional Sparrows, giving me a small fleet. That tripled my cargo space and passenger space, so I can make "credits" faster. I have also been to other star systems and purchased map segments to expand my knowledge of the galaxy.
As I progress I will need to get a fleet of bigger ships. There are pirates out there, and a war going on. Once I can fight against the pirates, I can capture ships from them. Captured pirates can earn me bounty money, and I can either hire more pilots to add their ships to my fleet or sell their ships.
