Enjoy Sydney S.'s review of Bitterbrush. Bitterbrush is a slow-moving documentary film which I did not particularly enjoy, because of its unfinished plot, editing and filming technique. At times, it was very hard to watch. The animal abuse that is portrayed is rough as well. However, it does have a good message.

Bitterbrush is about Hollyn and Colie, two female horseback riders, who herd cattle with the help of their many dogs. On this specific journey, they are separated from the modern world in isolated Idaho and during this perilous adventure their lives unexpectedly change.

The main characters of the documentary are Hollyn Patterson and Colie Moline, best friends who have been working together for a long time. Considering that the two of them work in a very remote place, Hollyn and Colie have grown close. The locations are real and so are the animals, which make the storyline more believable. Classical music plays in the background; however, at times it's difficult to hear the dialogue because the volume of the music overshadows it. My favorite part of the film is when Colie is playing with one of their dogs in bed. That is so adorable. The dogs are a key part of their cattle herding business; they are very essential to the riders. The attire of the two women is appropriate for two people who are out in the wilderness every day, all day.

The message of this film is to live life to the fullest. It also gets you thinking about what you want to do with your life and calls you to action to figure out who you are and who you want to be. Plus, it points out the value of good friendships. You should be aware that there is some rough language used, some risky behavior, and some animal abuse.

I give Bitterbrush 1.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 13 to 18, plus adults. Bitterbrush will be available in theaters and Digitally June 24, 2022.
