Lord Morpheus created the Corinthian with the hopes of making him his finest Nightmare but his vision did not exactly land right when Corinthian chose to avert his master by doing exactly opposite of the purpose he was made for. As a nightmare with toothy grins where his eyes should be, the Corinthian became the primary bad guy of The Sandman season 1. While there was no major lesson involved in the death of his character, the Corinthian became one of the most popular characters in the series, probably because of his dark sense of humor and a certain devilish charm many find oddly endearing.
