24With the release of ESPN NFL 2K5 in July 2004, SEGA and Virtual Concepts showed the world they were not only prepared to compete with the Madden series but they were here to dethrone and take over as kings of the football genre. SEGA partnered with ESPN to bring one of the most complete sports games ever created. With the implementation of the SportsCenter broadcast, ESPN NFL 2K5 very quickly showed fans that they wanted to be on top. However we know how history went with EA signing an exclusive rights deal with the NFL, we may never know how the football landscape would have changed but it's fair to say ESPN would have come out on top.
