The Superboss of EOV is now upon us; the Star Devourer is quite the involved battle. The fight is not structured as most other Superbosses in this series are, which is to say the Star Devourer is not set on a strict script that you must learn turn by turn in order to best it. This Boss instead has a myriad of options the player is asked to deal with on the fly. It puts to the test the players’ understanding of, and the ability to utilize their parties. You need to know your party’s strengths and weaknesses in equal measure, otherwise you’ll encounter obstacles in this battle that will appear impossible to overcome.

The battle will always begin with Full Burst; you can delay this with Stun, Sleep, Full Paralysis, disabling the limbs, and so forth, but this brings with it some problems. The check for whether or not Full Burst will be used happens at the start of the turn. If the Star Devourer is woken up before the limbs can “stand ready”, for example, the limbs will know not to prepare for Full Burst and will instead act of their own accord. You’ll want to note this for any units in your party who have high Action Speed Modifiers, like Harbingers with Miasma Armor or Blade Masters with Speed Up investment.

A word of warning; don’t let the low Damage Modifiers fool you. The Star Devourer and its body parts have STR stats of 243 and INT stats of 227, both of which are close to the 255 cap. The physical attacks, especially, will hit quite hard if you don’t work to mitigate them. I don’t want the description to be too long, so I’ll cover the behavior of each individual limb in its own comment below. There is a lot to cover so let’s begin.
