Euphoria 'I Need A Hero' Sequence Behind The Scenes
610Superfans of Austin Abrams and Ryan Heffington - this video is for you! Audiences were reeling over the incredible “Holding Out for a Hero” number in Euphoria - a major highlight of Lexi’s play! The amount of work and production that went into this number alone was epic, so we just had to take a sneak peek behind the scenes to see what really went into making one of the best season 2 highlights to the screen.
The hero of the episode was definitely Ethan, played by Austin Abrams. The actor had done some lice theater before- but it’s been a VERY long time since he performed in front of a live audience - especially dancing. Never before had he experienced performing for an audience AND cameras at the same time. We see him going all out - but what’s more impressive is for just how long he kept that energy up. The Euphoria filming days are often long and this was no exception. We’re talking three days of intense dancing every single take. The other actors can attest to just how much energy Abrams was exerting - with each take came more, more, more!
The clever and dazzling choreography was thanks to THE Ryan Heffington. This number was a major highlight to work on for Heffington, who felt like the music told him exactly what it wanted to be. If you’ve seen the number, you’ll know what he means - there were all sorts of symbols and raucous actions that made us love the dance even more.
It wasn’t all fun and games though. Some of the extras on the set had a brutal time, spending 16 long hours on set - resulting in a lot of people walking off- including one key cast member! It might have just been one dance number, but the effort that was put into it was nothing short of incredible.
