This team challenge is definitely one for the books. It took us around 60 hours to complete it. However, persistence lead us down the road to victory… FINALLY!

There are many factors that contributed to the time spent on this challenge:

1. Strategy building. Each boss fight had to be carefully strategized and meticulously planned. Then came practice.
2. It’s a team challenge. This means that it’s tough to keep the same 6 people the entire 60 hours. Replacements were frequent.
3. No guns. Obvious.
4. No deaths. Death = restart.
5. Stupid glitches and mishaps.
6. Unpredictable enemy behavior.
7. We didn’t use any of the relics to damage enemies or for any unnecessary offensive advantage. Ex: VoG’s relic was only used to cleanse, not damage enemies/oracles; Crota’s sword was only used to damage Crota; Aksis cannons were only used to kill servitors, not to damage Aksis or other enemies.

I’m super pleased with the effort that everyone put into this :) I couldn’t have done this without awesome teammates. So full credit to:

So let’s break down each fight strategy!

Atheon - 6 Hunters with both Celestial Nighthawk and Symbiote.
Since it’s challenge mode, each player must destroy one oracle. Once your oracle was destroyed, you switched to Nighthawk for the damage phase, then switched back afterwards. One player remained on Symbiote to clear ads on the sides.

Oryx - 5 players start off with Nighthawk, while one remains on Symbiote. 4 Nighthawks are responsible for Ogres/plates 1-4. The 5th Nighthawk does the platforming and is responsible for Nighthawking the Vessel/stunning Oryx. In the case that this said player must take out the Vessel, plate 2 player becomes the backup Oryx stunner. The Symbiote player is responsible for killing ALL 4 Light Eater Knights. In the case where he cannot kill any one Knight, a backup player would Nighthawk the remaining Knight. For the shade, we used Nighthawks with discretion. After the shade, everyone collected orbs then rinse and repeat 3 more times. Since it’s challenge mode, all 16 bombs must be detonated at once. The Symbiote player kept his chest open. Once everyone returned to middle, multiple Nighthawks were fired off to ensure full damage. Collect orbs for final stand!

Crota - We ran 2 Weapons Bubble Titans, 2 Sunsinger solar grenade Warlocks, and 2 Nighthawk Hunters. The Titans were responsible for popping the Weapons Bubble up near Crota and running the sword. For challenge mode, we killed him in 2 swords without ever dropping either sword. The 2 Warlocks were responsible for taking Crota down with solar grenades. The 2 Hunters were there to destroy any oversouls.

Aksis - This utilized 6 Sunsinger Warlocks with Starfire Protocol and fusion grenades. We adapted the “no shank killing” strat. Once empowered, it became a team assault on the 2 side captains, then a full team assault on the middle enemies. After the usual servitor kills and bomb tosses, we made sure to never miss a single back slam or plate slam, as this invalidates challenge mode. Damaging Aksis was done with fusion grenade spamming during Radiance. On the final teleport each phase, 2 players did not activate radiance. This was to ensure that we had 2 full supers for the middle captain on the next phase. We did this 3 times in a row. When Aksis neared his final stand threshold, we ceased fusion spamming and had only 2 players activate radiance to take him to final stand. This allowed for the remaining 4 players to have full Radiance for final stand and to get the final blow!!!

All of this mess explained above was all done in a row! Once Atheon was completed, we successfully killed the remaining 3 bosses first try. There were no wipes. No deaths. No redos. If we ever failed a challenge mode, died, etc., we had to restart all the way back at Atheon.

Yes, I’m fully aware that Aksis was completed at 380 Light and not 390. This is because it’s the only raid that doesn’t have the 390 version available all of the time. We still would have gotten the kill; there’s virtually no difference, or so it feels. The other 3 were 100% at 390.

I hope you all enjoy watching this! It’s a long video, but it’s definitely worth watching every minute. Even on the down time, we have some pretty interesting conversations and discuss upcoming strategies.
