Everything We Know About TYTHON & It's Connection to GROGU & The Jedi Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5
Tython is an extremely important planet, located in the Deep Core of the Galaxy, orbited by two Moons, Ashla and Bogan. In Star Wars Legends, Tython was a planet with an incredibly rich connection to the force and even became the planet where the Jedi Order originated, long before the Republic was formed.
So with Ahsoka Tano instructing Din Djarin to take The Child, now Known as Grogu, to the planet Tython to signal for a Jedi in the Mandalorian Season 2 episode 5, I’m going to break down everything we know about Tython’s role in the formation of the Jedi order in Canon, and how it connects the story from Star Wars: Legends.

In Canon, Tython is a rocky planet, far into the deep core of the Galaxy, similar to how it is in Legends. One difference however, is that in the only Canon appearance of the planet, the world has been depicted as having a thick layer of ice coating the surface of the rocky world, a massive series of ice caps in the southern parts of the planet
During the Galactic civil war, in an attempt to save her loved ones who were located at Echo Base on Hoth, Archaeologist, Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra lured Darth Vader and his imperial forces to Tython, diverting his attention from the true location of the Rebel Base on Hoth, giving the Rebels crucial time to prepare for attack.
Aphra lured Vader to a location known as the Martyrium of Frozen Tears, at the southern Ice caps on Tython, which was a sacred and spiritual area where the earliest versions of the Jedi Order went to confess their sins, directly to the Force Itself.
Jedi Master Ssker also owned a pendant which was carefully crafted on the planet Tython, likely keeping it because it was a sacred artifact from an important part of Jedi History
And that is absolutely everything we know about Tython in Canon.
Following that, I’ll now explain how Tython became the birthplace of the Jedi Order and a sacred world for their members, in Star Wars: Legends. I’m not going to cover the events that took place during the Star Wars: The Old Republic Game in this video, but if you guys want me to cover that in another one, just let me know down below!
So, here’s the legends story:
Tython was a dense, terrestrial world located in the Tython System of the Deep core. The planet varied quite a bit geographically, holding vast plains, tall hills, rocky mountains and even wide canyons. The planet was also orbited by two very important Moons, Ashla and Bogan, and was incredibly sensitive to the force, with connections to both the light and the dark side.
Many years after this, a series of ships known as the eight great pyramid ships arrived on Tython, bringing a huge group of force sensitive travellers from over a dozen worlds to the planet, which caused the planet to react intensely, unleashing a horrific force storm on the surface.
This mass of force sensitive settlers then spread out in different directions, creating towns, villages and settlements in various locations across the planet’s very livable surface. Eventually, the force sensitive settlers of Tython came together and realized that the whole purpose for their journey across the stars and gather in a single location was to study the force and harness it’s powers. As a result of this, a cohesive culture was formed, with all of the settlers from a variety of species coming together under the creed known as the Tythans.
Eventually, as the Tythans gazed up at their hazy night sky, they noticed that the two moons of their planet, the bright Ashla and the Dark Bogan, were in an eternal dance with eachother and related that to their knowledge of the force. They quickly realized that the two moons, represented the two sided nature of the force, with Ashla representing the light side and Bogan representing the Dark side of the force. They also noticed that Tython would react to imbalances in the force through powerful quakes and violent force storms.
After Je’daii order was formed, the quickly began bringing their hardest working members together, building 9 Jedi temples, including at the exact sites where the original “Eight Great Pyramid Ships” first landed on the planet. These temples later became known as the 9 great temples of the Je’daii order.
They were called:
Akar Kesh - which was The Temple of Balance,
Anil Kesh - which was The Temple of Science,
Bodhi - which was The Temple of the Arts,
Mahara Kesh - which was The Temple of Healing,
Kaleth - which was The Temple of Knowledge,
Padawan Kesk - which was The Je’daii academy,
Sav Kesh - which was The Temple of Martial Arts,
Qigong Kesh - which was The Temple of Force Skills, and finally,
Vur Tepe - which was The Forge, where students learned the ways of the force through blacksmithing and metallurgy.
