If there was one opening in gaming with the weight of the world on its shoulders, it was Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PlayStation 2.

For many back in 2001, Metal Gear Solid 2, developed by Konami, was just a next gen game, it was the next gen game, the title which promised to take cinematic videogame action to a whole new level - and Metal Gear Solid 2 delivered in spades.

In this video, I analyse everything from Metal Gear Solid 2's Tanker's level design and gameplay to its story, setting and atmosphere, to try and explain why this particular part of Metal Gear Solid 2 is such a great experience, while also drawing comparisons to other games in the Metal Gear Solid series.
