The simple answer is Backwards Compatible, FPS Boost & Optimised, but it still can be a bit confusing when trying to figure out which games will run on an Xbox Series S, and more importantly, which games will run better than on older consoles.
Most games will be running in Backward Compatibility Mode - all the Xbox One games (apart from Kinect ones), lots of Xbox 360 Titles (as long as you've got a digital version) and some original Xbox games.
It's worth noting that although older games should run better on the new hardware, some do not - Hunt Showdown and Vigor are titles that need attention from their devs or Microsoft.
A handful of games have been treated to FPS Boost - Microsoft are working on more - where a title that originally only managed 30fps will now reach 60fps and sometimes faster.
Finally, there are the Series X/S optimised games, which are designed to take advantage of the new consoles hardware. There aren't too many of these yet, but over the next couple of years they will become the majority.
Thanks, Rob.
