Seeking a suitable scout rover, the Andromeda Initiative purchased a promising but rejected design from the Systems Alliance military. The issue quickly became apparent: on rough terrain, without the bracing of heavy armor, the chassis was prone to twist. The Initiative had already developed lightweight but strong memory alloys which solved this problem.
The resulting ND1 Nomad exchanges heavy armaments for superior agility. The rover has a tripartite element zero core, which allows fine control over acceleration and a more modest helium-3 fuel cost for its micro-thrusters. Its lighter weight enables both six-wheel drive (6WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD), and four-wheel steering for hazardous surfaces. Fitting the Initiative's adaptive philosophy, the Nomad can be customized with appropriate camouflage or Initiative colors.
When necessary during long-haul exploration, the rover contains an emergency shelter. It can produce potable water from its hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells, though scientists recommend adding a flavor pack to it first.

There are thirteen upgrades available for the Nomad.
1. The blueprints for Improved Suspension (4WD) and Vertical Thrust Upgrade come with the vehicle.
2. The blueprint for Improved Shield Regeneration comes with the mission Task: Nomad Shield Crafting. It also unlocked as a Tier III blueprint if the mission isn't acquired beforehand.
3. The remaining blueprints are unlocked at specific levels based upon Tiers that follow the same schedule as AI-issued blueprints.
Some upgrades are available for purchase from merchants at a cost substantially lower than the total cost of the materials.
Upgrades are automatically installed the next time you enters the Nomad. In addition, stats are updated and blueprints are removed from inventory.
Advanced Detection Systems: Allows the occupants of the Nomad to detect enemies through obstacles at a range of up to 75 meters.
Advanced Life Support: Installs power cells that can briefly generate a mass effect field around the Nomad to shield occupants as they are exiting the vehicle.
Agility Mode: Allows the Nomad's Stability Assist, which is always on by default, to be disabled, giving an expert driver greater control over the vehicle. With Stability Assist disabled, the Nomad is more agile, but will have less traction when cornering.
Defensive Fortification: Improves the Nomad's shield strength and frame integrity by 25%.
Emergency Shield Discharge: When the Nomad's shields are entirely depleted, shield cells will discharge, generating a shockwave that sends nearby enemies flying.
Improved Boost: Expands booster chambers to provide a longer boost in both drive modes.
Improved Shield Regeneration: Upgrades the Nomad's shield cells, allowing for faster regeneration without sacrificing effectiveness.
Improved Suspension (4WD): Increase the Nomad's top speed in 4-wheel-drive mode.
Shield Reset Bonus: Upgrades shield cells to reduce the time it takes for shields to begin regenerating.
Supercharged Boost: Greatly improved air flow and fuel injection allows for an even longer boost time.
Supplemental Life Support: Upgrades the Nomad's life support system to improve functioning in extreme environments.
Torque Management (6WD): Improves torque in 6-wheel-drive, allowing for a faster top speed in that mode.
Vertical Thrust Upgrade: Increases the force generated by vertical thrusters by 40%.
