Ever since I got Pokémon X (and Wind Waker HD), I've been hooked. Granted, I've had no excuse for not uploading much for the past month or so, but point is....I'm still alive, right? =P Regardless, this is an extension of the theme where you battle against the three main Legendaries in Kalos: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. And oh boy....I've labeled it as my favorite Legendary theme as of now. Most Legendary themes I've enjoyed, but not to this scale. Once I heard it, I was hooked all day to it. And when I finally found a version where there was very little SFX, I just had to extend it. Even so, maybe I should give my opinions about X.

First off, I was trying to hold down my hype to prevent something like my disappointment for 5th Gen from happening again. Even that didn't keep up for much longer by September, and my hype really skyrocketed weeks before release. And now that I have it, what do I think about it? Well, despite a few problems the games have, it's an incredible introduction to a new generation of Pokémon. The world is completely in 3D (though this was introduced slightly in 4th Gen; just retained a 2D look), and much of the gameplay is retained from its previous generations. It adds Mega Evolutions, a way to make some Pokémon better in exchange of not able to hold an item. I was a little confused how Mega Evolutions worked, but when I finally got my hands on the game and the opportunity to use it, I understood the mechanics nearly immediately. You don't lose a turn once you Mega Evolve, and they always have a speed priority before anything else. Of course, you do have to keep in mind that only one Megas allowed in a player's team, so this can create some interesting new strategies. And speaking of new, there's also a new type, which it's been since 2nd Gen that something like this happened. This type is known as Fairy, and it has its own strengths and weaknesses. I personally only tried out two Fairy types, and they were the retyped ones: Mawile and Gardevoir. However, there are others out there to possibly get a buff....or worsen their already not-so worthwhile usage for battling. Mechanics haven't changed too much, honestly, so that concludes one paragraph....

Secondly....the graphics and story. Honestly, who ever played a Pokémon game for either of these things? I certainly did not, but the stories in 5th Gen were a nice bonus as they were the first main Pokémon games to catch my interest story-wise. Graphics also got an upgrade, as many old moves look fantastic than the previous gen. Then, there are others that fall flat (looking at you, Fire Blast). But everything in Kalos looks great, as Game Freak went towards a cell-shaded look and for what it is, it's amazing to look at at times. Story....it's something that falls short until you beat the seventh gym. To avoid spoilers for those who ARE reading this (and if you are, then you clearly don't care if my decriptions for these are too long), but in my experience, what Team Flare really was aiming to do made me more determined to take them out. Story still isn't strong in X and Y, but the stuff that did catch my interest....really did catch my interest.

Lastly, the sound. Older Pokémon got "revamped" cries, yeah. We're aware of this. Personally, I'm cool with this, as it makes them sound less...digital, I guess. Pikachu's still the only Pokémon that speaks with his own anime speak, but all the others get enough change to make things feel fresh. Old SFX still make a return, and so do returning tracks. But this is where it's hit or miss: the music. Personally, I like the soundtrack of X and Y; it's really nice and weird at the same time to hear not soundfonts anymore. The over-world themes are the gems of this game, clearly. The battle music is what falls short: it's hit-or-miss to players. Personally, the only song I wish was better was the Team Flare theme. After the catchy Team Plasma theme, was slightly disappointed with this one (though it's not a terrible theme by any means). Maybe the Elite 4 theme could've been better, but that's really about it. The others are fine for me. But if there's one battle song that tops all the others....it's the three Kalos Legendaries' theme. It's so amazing, and like I said, got hooked the moment I heard it.

So, in conclusion, I think Pokémon X and Y are good games, but the main flaws do include a bit of slowdown during battles (this is noticeable in Horde Battles), an extremely bad save bug in Lumiose City that'll soon have a fix, and it can be a tad easy/short. Even so, I think this is a great start for 6th Gen, and I think it's even better than 5th Gen....maybe because I can interact with my friends and anybody else in the world via the PSS whenever I'm not in a battle.
