F-22 Raptor R/C Jet CRASH!!! ✈️ Ran out of Juice on a Go Around... :'(
Watch me fly and CRASH the Freewing 8S 90mm EDF F-22 Raptor at the Furtivos 2022 international heli meet! It was a rather gusty day with plenty of cross wind turbulence to give me headaches on a difficult field and I had a problem with a battery having a cell die towards the end of a flight. The approach wasn't good so I decided to go around for a second attempt, but right then the cell gave up on me for good and the jet's EDF started spooling down despite me applying full throttle. A sudden gust sent the jet back up in the air to make it worst, and I had already begun to turn away from the runway, so I didn't have many options. My target was to try and make a 180º turn so the jet would land in the grass at least, but I was forced to turn very sharply to avoid losing the plane in the cliff beyond the runway and this bled too much energy. Still, I would have made it, was it not for the sponsor banners which got in the way and 'intercepted' my controlled crash, lmao. That was early on in the day, and the damage wasn't too bad, so I spent the rest of the day repairing the jet because I wanted to make a joint heli-jet flight demo with Mirko Cesena that same day. Thankfully, I was able to pull it off, made a couple of flights to retrim and make sure everything was working right and managed to make that exhibition flight without further issues :)
That flight was quite epic too, go check it out here if you haven't already! :D

Mind that although most of the jet is stock, I performed several modifications. Removed the infamous Blue Box and wing ribbon wires, passed individual leads to wing servos, mixed them all separately, removed pilot figure and nose gear light, installed a HE A3S3 gyro (which required physical servo reversing one stabilator servo, inverting motor and pot wires), added a green LED to make a fake HUD reflection effect, airbrushed the canopy to make it look more golden, like the full-scale one. Need to pick the sun at the right angle to show up though!
More details on my setup coming (soon?)!
