Sky Sports ask so many questions to Nyck de Vries, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc where they answer all the questions and share their thoughts.
Driver of the Day is an official F1 award. It is not about who wins the race or who has the fastest car. It’s the driver who has performed the best given the challenges he has faced on any given Sunday. F1 Driver of the Day provides a sub-plot to the latter stages of every single grand prix as fans get the chance to vote on the award.
The latest winner of Driver of the Day was Williams debutant Nyck de Vries, who produced a terrific drive at Monza to finish 9th at the Italian Grand Prix. That was good enough for de Vries to top the voting with 24.8%, ahead of Carlos Sainz on 21.1%.
Nyck de Vries, a Dutch racing driver who competed for ART Grand Prix and won the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship, was born on February 6, 1995. De Vries, a previous participant in the McLaren Young Driver Program, advanced to F2 in 2017 and established himself as a consistent front-runner for the duration of the Championship.
The Italian Grand Prix 2022 was won by Max Verstappen from seventh on the grid, a great result. Nyck de Vries' performance was at least as impressive, however, as he managed to finish ninth on the Monza circuit in a Williams. But there may be more candidates for the title of 'GPblog Driver of the Day.' De Vries was crowned Driver of the Day by F1 fans worldwide.
However, the difference with Carlos Sainz was minimal with only three percentage points. The Ferrari driver had to come all the way from P18, but within no time the Spaniard was at the front of the grid. In the end, he fell just short of the podium because of the safety car.
The 2022 F1 Italian GP saw Max Verstappen put together another master class. Much to the dismay of Tifosi, Verstappen beat home hero Charles Leclerc. Over the Italian GP weekend, we have seen some fantastic performances from quite a few drivers up and down the grid. At the same time, for others, it was not the most memorable weekend by any means.
