F/A-18 Interceptor Demo (Amiga) | Sharka's MicroBytes #11
I've settled into a format for MicroBytes, focusing on interesting bits of demoscene stuff and game intros and music and general home microcomputer bits 'n' pieces.
F/A-18 Interceptor, published by Electronic Arts in 1988 and developed by Intellisoft exclusively for the Commodore Amiga, is seriously impressive stuff, sporting the first exterior views ever seen in a flight simulator. It strikes a fine balance between simulation accuracy and arcade approachability.
I've been informed by veteran Amiga owners that the demo mode available on the main menu was often used by computer retailers to demonstrate the Amiga 500's technical prowess. I can see why, and after watching it loop a couple of times earlier, felt it was prime material for a MicroBytes - with the addition of a track from Super EF2000's superbly atmospheric score to complement it. There's no music otherwise, just engine sounds and electronic boops.
Recorded on the PUAE core for Retroarch with the HSM Mega Bezel and TheNamec's Commodore Pack shaders to give an authentic display feel. Running on a stock 512KB A500 config and the forced NTSC option turned on. 'Sharp S-Video' shader.
