I meant to make this a year ago and never quite managed to. Thankfully there's been a few more relevant films released recently which made for a closer look to the game I hope.

Strife is known as a seminal experiment using the Doom engine: an ambition RPG/FPS hybrid in which you play as a revolutionary looking to undermine a crazed cult with futuristic technology. It's still remembered fondly for the quirky characters, inventive premise, and the classic soundtrack.
