Falcon 4 is probably best thought of as the first of the study sims. It has a mostly fully clickable cockpit and its various functions appear to be faithful to the F16 Block 50/52 itself.

The Falcon series was developed by Spectrum Holobyte, which merged with Microprose, after which time 4.0 was released under the Microprose label, at that point owned by Hasbro, and rushed out for the Christmas sales period in 1998.

Having been rushed out the title was in an incomplete state. After patch 1.08 was released the development team was laid off. The code was leaked to an FTP site in 2000 and the community continued development of the title.
