Fallout 4 is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Fallout 4 is the fifth major installment in the Fallout series, the game was released worldwide on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Fallout 4 is set in a post-apocalyptic Boston in the year 2287, 210 years after a devastating nuclear war, in which you, the Time Traveler, emerge from an underground bunker known as Vault 111. Fallout 4's gameplay is similar to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You complete various quests and acquire experience points to level up. Fallout 4 is an open world so I know I won't be completing the main story any time soon. Companions can accompany you to assist in battles and help with scavenging. A new feature of Fallout 4 is the extensive crafting system. You can build settlements by scrapping pretty much anything and everything. The settlements can be inhabited by a variety of NPC's. You can also mod your weapons, your armor, and even power armor!
Fallout 4 also features a layered armor system and a dynamic dialogue system featuring 111,000 lines of dialogue (which is a curse and a blessing). Enemies such as mole rats, raiders, super-mutants, deathclaws, and feral ghouls return in Fallout 4, along with the companion Dogmeat.
You have the ability to roam anywhere on the map, or leave a conversation at any time. Fallout 4 includes over 50 base guns, which can be crafted with a variety of modifications, such as barrel types and laser focus, with over 700 modifications available. Power Armor has been redesigned to be more like a vehicle than an equipable suit of armor (which is good and bad), and can also be modified, adding items such as a jetpack or selecting separate types of armor for each part of the suit. The town-building element to this game can get crazy. Merchants and NPC's can inhabit your settlements and you've gotta provide sustenance by growing food in makeshift patches and building water spouts. You can also build various defenses around your settlements, such as turrets and traps, to defend against random attacks.
The biggest change for me is that now when using the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.), real-time action is slowed down (not stopped). You can still see the probability of hitting each body part of the enemies. The change is good though because in previous games, the V.A.T.S system was too strong.
The leveling up system of Fallout 4 is a little different now. Players are still given points to spend on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. (which represents seven statistics, namely Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck). When you gain enough XP to gain a new level, you can unlock a new perk or increase a S.P.E.C.I.A.L stat. The more points allocated to a stat, more perks can be unlocked (and higher levels of some perks (which is new)). There are about 275 perks available to unlock. There is no level cap and the game does not end once the main story is complete. Which are both new! Thank you Elder Scrolls for that influence! :D
For the first time in the series, your companions can interact with the environment. For example, if you do not have the required skills to hack a terminal or pick a lock, you can order the companion to do it.
