Here is my setup i have for farming vegetable starch. I used four settlements: Red Rocket (my main one, up to 20 settlers!), Abernarthy Farm, Grey Garden and the Sunshine Tidings areas.

I usually will gather all resources first and then head back to my main settlement (Red Rocket), then sleep for an hour to get the Lover's Embrace perk and then will craft my vegetable starch maximizing both experience points gained and also adhesives for crafting. At the end, I give a tour of my latest Red Rocket settlement and it's setup.. yea, i decorated the walls and have most of the companions I switch between residing here.
