Fallout Films | On The Beach
Today's Fallout Film: On The Beach, is an early example of a serious nuclear war film, focusing on the aftermath of world war 3. This film is a drama, unlike every other film in this series, and focuses heavily on how the lives of those who survived the nuclear Holocaust. It's not obvious, but let's find out how this film influenced the Fallout series.
On The Beach takes place in 1964, in the months following world war 3, a conflict that cleansed all life from the northern hemisphere. Only those who live far into the southern hemisphere have survived, however the winds of change, or more frankly, the winds of nuclear fallout, are about to change that.
The film is an interesting view into the lives of those not immediately affected by nuclear war, and is an overall competent drama. It contains some powerful shots and scenes, both of the dead west coast of America, and the slowly dying streets of Melbourne. Although I enjoyed the film, I would say that it is my least favourite so far in the series.
